Time to Mail, 1st Grade Buddies, and Finding Evidence!

Our letters for our penpals are in the mail!
We can't wait to get our first letters in the weeks to come.


We are working on finding evidence to support our claim.
Our class has been practicing this with Tiger Rising.
Now we are creating our own claims for our independent books and including reasons, as well as specific examples from the text to include in the claim.

We are also locating two different parts of the story and finding out how the sections are connected. 
We are also trying to determine if there is a life lesson appearing.




We got a kick out of our classmates twinning.


We began student led mindfulness.
We used this before testing and throughout the day.



Recess fun!





We are working on our small moment stories.
We are trying to find the heart of the story (the most important part of the story) 
and elaborate to add more details.





We met our first grade buddies from Mrs. Johnson's room.
For our buddy time this week, we did a getting to know you activity and tried to find things that we have in common with our buddy. When we were done, we did some reading with our buddies!












After MAP testing, we played one of our favorite math games called 24.
You have to use all 4 numbers. You can add, subtract, multiply, or divide to get 24.




Share Something Great is something that I truly love.
I am so glad the kids are excited to share great things with one another!









On Friday, we worked on typing our small moment stories.
We went back and highlighted the heart of the story.
Then, we add more details to the most important part.




We are becoming vocabulary experts.
The kids are getting so excited when they find our words in stories!



We have a new student joining our class on Monday!
We took some time to create signs to welcome him.
In case you didn't notice, we are pretty excited to have a new classmate!

Our First Math Talk and Share Something Great Friday!

The Cacioppo Crew completed our first Math Talk on Friday.  We discovered that we need to provide evidence to support our answers. We also discovered that more than one answer could be considered correct  depending on how we estimate!   Our Share Something Great Friday was a HUGE success! I was truly impressed with the enthusiasm of students presenting, as well as those in the audience. We built connections with others and realized what makes us unique. Share Something Great will be an optional opportunity for students that want to participate on Fridays. I will have a sign up outside the classroom door for students to use. Way to go, Cacioppo Crew!

Place Value Math Stations and Writing Stories With Trouble, Trouble Getting Worse, and Trouble Resolved

We explored place value with math centers! In this activity, we took turns rolling dice to create numbers that fit the different descriptions using place value. We also worked on ST Math and games on Big Ideas! We also placed a place value game with Mrs. C.  We rolled the popper and matched the colors with the given place value. We explored numbers to the millions and some also explored decimal place value. We created our own stories where the main character had a problem, the problem got worse, and then the problem was resolved. We learned how to use IXL to practice our skills for Big Ideas! We shared what we accomplished so far in writing with a buddy. We shared our stories with classmates! On a side note... I am trying to problem solve why my pictures are blurry on my iPhone 11. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

Out of Order: Multiplication Strategies, Reading and Writing Celebrations, and Choose Your Own Adventure!

Our letters made it to our pen pals in France! We are so excited to see who got our letters. In the upcoming weeks, we hope to learn a phrase or two in French, receive our first letters from our pen pals, and set up a Skype with their class!  They are 7 hours ahead of us so our Skype would be before 9 am!  I hope you were able to enjoy the beautiful fall colors outside this week.  This is one of my favorite places to walk in the fall near my house. Ms. Schippers shared with us some popular books that were once banned. The kids were surprised to hear why many of the books were banned! Our October calendar is up and running from our Events Coordinator. She will be adding other important events in the days to come. These are pictures from France.
